Is this the shape of things to come. It wasn’t Friday 13th but it certainly felt like it for villagers who were stuck in long traffic queues trying to leave the peninsula. An overturned lorry caused delays for motorists after it shed its load of soil. Click here to read more November 2018

High Halstow village will be adorned with Poppies on lamp posts in November!

The Poppies on Lamp post Committee are excited at the prospect of seeing these fantastic poppies on lamp posts in Christmas Lane, Cooling Road, The Street going through down to the beginning of Britannia road There will be 102 in all.

We are hoping that villagers will enter into the spirit of the commemorations and sponsor a lamp post. Please help us to play our part in funding raising for the British Legion in this unique way (our own design). Email linda23atkinson@gmail.com or call/text 07825 619 353. We have already received a few enquiries but we really need to ask for your support now that November is only a month away.

We are now unsure whether there will also be a small number of poppies available for the public to purchase. There have been issues with the materials delivered. When calling or texting to sponsor we will be able to confirm whether there will be garden poppies to purchase. We expect these to be in the region of £20-£30. https://www.gofundme.com/manage/poppies-on-lamp-posts-in-high-halst October 2018

Open Letter sent to Cabinet

Dear Cllr Jarrett and Members of the Cabinet
It is with great anger that the people of the Hoo Peninsula have learnt of the proposed closure of Deangate Ridge Golf Course on 31 March 2018, to be decided by Medway Council’s Cabinet on 6 February. We have also seen the proposal by your Assets Department on your website that it be sold to make way for 1,600 houses.

You are due to consult the people of Medway on your new draft Local Plan from 16 March-11 May this year, details of which are not yet published nor, we understand, available to councillors. It therefore seems wholly inappropriate that the fate of such a major, public-owned resource should be determined immediately prior to this defining consultation for Medway. We are left to presume that development of the golf course does indeed figure strongly in your housing plans, and that seeking to close it prior to the public consultation is no accident of timing but a way of sealing its fate prior to us having our say.

We are therefore urging all members of Cabinet, as a matter of democracy, to delay any decision about the golf course and to allow it to remain open until the public has had a chance to see and comment on the draft Local Plan. Surely we, the people of Medway, deserve to have the chance to offer our views on how a valuable asset that we effectively own might feature in our future?

Yours sincerely

George Crozer
Chair, High Halstow Parish Council

Chair, Hoo St Werburgh Parish Council
